I have a professional 400 slot community server through Typefrag.com with which I set groups of people up with their own free section of channels that come with powerful and easy to use Admin abilities. Since I already have our server and its costs taken care of, this allows me the privilege of seeing our server being enjoyed by a larger number of people.
So, what are the pro's and con's between your options with TeamSpeak?
If you run your own server from your home computer you have to go through the process of port forwarding various ports on your modem/router in order for people to be able to connect. Plus you are sharing your IP address with the world. Of course then there is the bandwidth issue, that may preclude you from being able to have a flawless conversation due to having to process every voice being broadcast on your whole server.
In comparison, having a free TeamSpeak section on our professionally hosted server through Typefrag.com means your IP address stays hidden from the world and the only bandwidth you use is just enough for you to send your voice to the server and receive your response from the server. Plus you have no need to port forward any ports for any reason.
If you rent your own server from a company, setting up all the options to make it perfect for your needs can be overwhelming and time consuming, not to mention delicate work. One overlooked setting could mean the difference between letting anyone take control over your server, or perhaps even prevent you from joining your own server. Also there are costs involved in renting your own server which some people may find difficult to keep up with.
In comparison, I am offering sections of channels at no charge, also they come with free admin abilities which are easy to understand and use right from the start. I have spent all the time and effort setting up the perfect admin system so that you can get on with chatting with your friends knowing you already have all the power at your fingertips with no worry about having to configure it all yourself.
In the following example, you can see a group of people in their own section. They have extra channels for other purposes. Some of their members have been given some admin abilities by the main section owner and some have been given clan access. For added security, their section owner chose to put a password on their main first channel to prevent random people from entering.
